This program is strictly voluntary. The purpose of this program is to encourage the learning of fundamental skills by a broad base of divers at the Association level. These skills would then provide divers the chance to perform their competitive dives correctly, and at a high level of excellence.
Addendum to Article 27 -- Developmental, Novice, and Intermediate Skills
Skills Description and Special Instructions
JUMPS
100A Forward Jump, In Straight Position -- Performed with the arms held straight, parallel and motionless overhead and in line with the body. The body line should be straight during the flight and no movement should occur. The entry is performed with the arms remaining overhead. The angle of entry should be vertical, but the amount of splash should not be judged. The front jump may be performed with an approach or with a standing, two-footed bounce as described in the ``Dive Safe'' program.
200A Backward Press with Jump, In Straight Position -- The Jump is performed with the arms held straight, parallel and motionless overhead and in line with the body. The body line should be straight during the flight and no movement should occur. The entry is performed with the arms remaining overhead. The angle of entry should be vertical, but the amount of splash should not be judged.
LINE-UPS
001A Forward Fall In Line-up, Arms Lateral -- Diver stands on the end of the board in a straight position, arms lateral at shoulder height and in line with the body. Rise up high on the toes and fall keeping the body straight during the flight. Close laterally with arms straight for entry. No spring from the board is allowed.
001B Forward Open Pike Line-up, Standing -- Diver stands on the end of the board in the forward open pike position. Rise up high on the toes and fall. The body opens to the entry position with the arms moving laterally and kept straight to the overhead entry stretch.
001B Forward Open Pike Line-up, Standing with Spring -- Diver stands forward on the end of the board and using a pressing action with the arms and legs, springs into an open pike forward line-up. During the pike the arms should be kept straight and lateral. When preparing for the entry the arms should be kept straight and close in a lateral line to the overhead entry position, with hand grabbed.
001C Forward Tuck Line-up with Pike-Out, Sitting -- Diver sits on the end of the board in a tuck position. Prior to beginning the roll in the diver moves to a pike-out position then rolls forward and performs the line-up with lateral arm path.
002A Backward Fall In Line-up, Arms Lateral -- Diver stands backward on the board in a straight position, the arms are held lateral at shoulder height and in line with the body; rises up high on the toes and falls keeping the body straight during the flight; closes laterally with arms straight for entry. No spring from the board is allowed.
002A Backward Fall In Line-up, Midline Come-Out -- Same as above, except that the arms starting position is with the arms straight with hands placed on the front of the thighs and as the diver falls, the arms are moved up the midline of the body and hands grabbed in preparation for the entry.
002C Backward Line-Up Tuck Position, Lateral Come-Out from a Sitting, Squatting or Pop Up Take-Off -- From a sitting, squatting or pop up (small spring from the squatting position) take-off, the diver performs a backward dive, tuck line-up with a lateral or midline come-out action. When moving from the tuck position, the initial body position can be straight, straight with hollow upper body or slightly piked. The head position can be tilted forward toward the feet or neutral. An extreme head back position or excessive body arch are not desirable. The entry is performed with the head in line or slightly tilted backward and aligned between the arms.
FORWARD AND INWARD COME-OUTS
Lateral Come-Out -- As the diver moves from the tuck or pike position to a straight body alignment, the arms straighten and move laterally to the overhead entry position. No pike-out action is allowed.
Straight Line Come-Out -- (one part movement) Regardless of which body position is chosen to execute the dives, the come-out should be to a straight body line (no pike-out action) with the arms moving in a direct line from their position in the tuck or pike, to the entry position with hands grabbed.
Pike Out Come-Out -- (two-part movement) If performing a tuck position optional, the diver moves from the tuck position by straightening the legs at the knee joint while maintaining a pike position in the hip joint. As the legs straighten the arms also straighten and move to a lateral placement. The diver then opens the body to a straight position while the arms remain straight and move laterally to the overhead entry position, with hands grabbed. In the pike position, since the legs are already straight, the pike-out action is accomplished by straightening the arms from the grasp on the legs and moving them to a lateral position. The remainder of the come out is the same as in the tuck pike-out action.
BACK AND REVERSE COME-OUTS
Straight Line Come-Out -- (one part come-out) As the diver kicks out of either a tuck or pike position the body moves to a straight alignment, while the head is either kept tilted forward toward the feet or in a neutral position. The arms move with the elbows kept bent in a straight, direct line from their position on the legs to an overhead entry position. The entry is with the head in line or tilted slightly backward and aligned between the arms. Any extreme head back or excessive body arch are not desirable.
Lateral Come-Out -- The lateral come-out is executed by moving from the tuck or touch position to a body position that is straight, straight with hollow upper body, or slightly piked with the head either tilted forward toward the feet or neutral. The arms straighten as the body opens and moves in a lateral path to the overhead entry position with hands grabbed. The entry is performed with the head in line or slightly tilted backward and aligned with the arms. Any extreme head back position or significant body arch are not desirable.
Mid-Line Come-Out -- (two-part come-out) The midline come-out is executed by moving from the tuck or pike position to a straight, straight with hollow upper body or slightly piked body position. The head can be tilted forward toward the feet or neutral. As the head and body are establishing the come-out position, the arms can straighten and be positioned near the thighs or bent and located anywhere from the hip to the lower chest area with the hands on the midline of the body. After the head, body and arm come-out positions are established, the stretch for the entry takes place by moving the arms up the midline of the body while keeping them straight, bent, or a combination of both. At the completion of the stretch for the entry the body should be straight or slightly arched, with the head neutral or slightly tilted backward and aligned between the arms and the arms straight and overhead, with the hands grabbed. Any extreme head back position of excessive body are not desirable.
